Farmers Rights: I would introduce legislation that would give farmers the right to grow (non GMO, non invasive species) crops on their land and guarantee them the right to sell that crop in it’s raw form either directly or in stores. I would apply the same rights to producers of meat and dairy products.
While in the long term I would like to eliminate federal agencies that intrude into the jurisdiction of states. Such agencies as the FDA, and the DEA, in addition to encroaching on states rights, have failed to serve their purpose in protecting consumers. I would work to reduce the size and scope of these agencies over time, giving states the needed time to create their own systems. I would however work to establish federal labeling guidelines for any food or drug products (including cigarettes and alcohol) coming into the United States from other countries, and encourage states to do the same for any consumable product sold in their state. Most congressmen are not doctors and are not suited to decide what we should and should not have in our food supply I do however believe it is the responsibility of our government to assure that we get full disclosure of what is in our food and health products so that we have the information needed to decide for our selves.
